Isolation Notification

Dear all,

In the Prime Minister’s briefing today (March the 16th) the advice has been given that it is no longer considered safe to gather together in large or small groups for the time being, until the virus has reached its peak and begins to subside.

As I said last Sunday, I fully believe that ‘God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline.’ Therefore we do not want to make a reactionary decision based on fear; however as a leadership it is also our commitment and responsibility to take your safety seriously and to ‘manage risks appropriately,’ as I also said in my sermon.

I have the added complication that Boaz has been taken ill, and so if I return home to support my family I will have to join them in self-isolation for the next two weeks.

So, this evening the church leadership met, we prayed and discussed the situation and unanimously felt it was best to cancel all physical meetings, and move services to online-only for the next two weeks, and possibly longer depending on future information. This is not a decision we have taken lightly, and please be assured we will resume physical meetings as soon as we feel it is safe and prudent to do so.

From my perspective we are not ‘cancelling church,’ but temporarily moving location to Facebook. At 10:30am every Sunday there will be a live-streamed service with worship, prayer and communion – and I hope you will join us online at that time to be the gathered church in your own homes. I will be recording a sermon for you to stream or download which will be made available at the same time, or please ask for a copy on CD if you cannot access it online.

We are also planning to establish an online prayer group so we can provide support and companionship for each other throughout the week, and I personally will be contactable at if you would like me to call you for prayer, or for a friendly voice in your isolation.

If you are isolated and need practical help, for example to pick up shopping, or posting letters, then please contact and he will do his best to arrange the support you need – although please keep your requests reasonable!

I believe the church not only has the strength to weather this storm, but also to be a beacon of light, providing hope to a fearful nation. With that in mind, we will producing a card that you can drop in to friends or neighbours who are self-isolating. The card will be your chance to offer practical support, or simply to phone them to see how they are doing, and will also include an invitation to our online services.

I do not want you to put yourself at risk, but I hope that those of us who are physically able will take this opportunity to demonstrate the love of Christ to the people outside the church by safely doing what we can to help.

As 1 Corinthians 4 says:

You see, we don’t go around preaching about ourselves. We preach that Jesus Christ is Lord, and we ourselves are your servants for Jesus’ sake. For God, who said, “Let there be light in the darkness,” has made this light shine in our hearts so we could know the glory of God that is seen in the face of Jesus Christ. We now have this light shining in our hearts, but we ourselves are like fragile clay jars containing this great treasure. This makes it clear that our great power is from God, not from ourselves.

We are pressed on every side by troubles, but we are not crushed. We are perplexed, but not driven to despair. We are hunted down, but never abandoned by God. We get knocked down, but we are not destroyed.

On behalf of the leadership I thank you for supporting us in the difficult decisions we have to make, and ask that you will pray for our continued wisdom and discernment in this uncertain time. I pray that as a church God fills our hearts so we will not be crushed by the troubles around us, but are able to pour out the perfect love that casts out all fear.

God bless,

Pastor Phil Worthington
